NOVEMBER 24, 2016
It was a beautiful morning on the 24th November 2016. The morning started off well with enlightening and educative sessions. After lunch, some of the students from the Tullinge Gymnasiums, Bromma Gymnasiums and Exchange programme students of Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science accompanied by Sir Vasant Hede and one faculty member from each of the two Gymnasiums visited the Chowgule Shipyard at Borim.
The journey started with a fresh new atmosphere and after travelling for a distance we reached our destination. We were given protective helmets to wear them on our head and some of us found the helmet really uncomfortable. The chief executive of the informed and guided us about the various things that take place in the Shipyard. We were also briefed about the various international projects taken up by the shipyard. The Chowgule Industry has two of its shipyards in Goa. Both of these shipyards can produce about 6 – 10 ships in a year. The material required to build the shipyard is just brought 2 – 3 days before the production starts. Huge tonnes of steel required to build the shipyard is being cut, bend and then transported from the plant to these shipyards.
Later, we were taken to the production house where small parts of the ships were build. Most of the welding and fixing work is done manually by the workers and the rest is followed automatically by the machines. We were also shown the various huge instruments used to build the ship.
The Swedes were amazed as most of them saw the shipyard for the first time. The shipyard was really an interesting factor of something new as we came across. A new experience of something different apart from our academic studies was experienced by us.
